1/2C uncooked oats (150c, 27k, 6p, 4f)
1C water
Pinch of salt
Boil water and salt
Stir in oats.
Cook ~15 minutes over medium heat
Stir occasionally
Makes 1C cooked oatmeal (single serving)
Steel Cut Oats
1/4C uncooked Steel Cut oats (150c, 27k, 5p, 4f)
1-1/2C water
Pinch of salt
Boil water and salt
Stir in oats and reduce to simmer
Stirring occasionally for ~30 minutes
Makes 1C cooked oatmeal (single serving)
Oatmeal Porridge
1C jumbo oats (311c, 54.27k, 12.96p, 7.9f)
2C water
1/2C milk (146c, 11.03k, 7.86p, 0f)
Pinch salt
Toast oats until fragrant on stove top
Transfer to sauce pan and add liquids and salt, stir
Bring to a boil, then simmer, stirring while cooking
Once creamy, turn off heat, cover and let sit for ~5 minutes
This is a single creamy oatmeal mash serving

Figuring nutrition counts: Since I am tracking calories here is what I do. I pick steel cut oats (150c), toppings include cinnamon and blueberries (89c), so my breakfast is 239c.
Using oatmeal for breakfast has been around for thousands of years. I doubt there is an original recipe to source. Usually follow the instructions on the package and everything cooks well. For variation you could change the water for broth or other liquids and see how it works.
