Photos
We try to use our own images wherever possible, but sometimes we post photos taken by others. In those cases we attempt to use ”free to use” photos only, but do share some we have asked permission to use.
- My photos are listed as “Photo by PattyCooks.”
- Photographer Alan Collins has given permission for me to post his food-related travel pictures (they are wonderful).
- Most of the freely used photos come from:
- Pexel: The best free stock photos & videos shared by talented creators, I can use or modify anything from this site.
- PixaBay: Again a free photos site that allows free use so long as you are not implying it is your image.
- Wikipedia Commons: All content that is free to reuse per policy.
- Creative Commons is another site for free materials
- Pictures taken at Kitchen on Fire classes are done so with permission from the company (and students sign a permission form) understanding they will be posted on the web.
- I have requested and received permission from Verdant Tea to post their photos of their teas.
If I have accidentally used a copyright photo without permission please let me know so I can remove it asap.
Graphics
Graphics are mine, or I have used:
- Graphics from other sites with permission
- Governmental graphics for free use
- Organizations graphics for educational use
- I have received permission to use the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid Graphic from oldwayspt.org Oldways Preservation & Exchange Trust.
- I have requested and received permission from Verdant Tea to post their brewing instructions graphics.
Videos
So far I have not made any videos, as that is not a skillset I have yet.
- Embedded YouTube Videos that are obviously not mine.
- YouTube Terms of Service (part 6C) state: posters grant each user of YouTube to access Content and to use, reproduce, distribute, display and perform such Content. They also has a fair use policy.
- I have requested and received permission from Kitchen on Fire to use their videos on my site.
My Copyright
Although my pages and media are copyrighted, I am giving permission that anyone can use my photos provided they give ownership to “pattycooks.com.” My preference is for the statement associated with my photos or videos be written like this: Photo by PattyCooks
No Illegal Use is Intended
Items that are not mine have been used from other web sources only occur if they are indicated as “free to use.” My intent is to make them temporary until I take or make my own.
It is entirely possible I may have used something that is copyrighted. No copyright infringement is intended on my part and if you find a photo or graphic I have incorrectly posted, thinking it was free to use, just let me know and I will remove.
I am claiming the use of quotes, graphics, photos and videos as part of the “fair use,” doctrine as I am clearly writing criticism, commentary, news reporting, teaching, and research which are considered fair.
- My site is a not for profit site focused on educational, teaching, and news
- I quote or use factual information, research or news
- Reference only parts of original text or the graphic with links
- Incorporate external data into an article as reference points supporting or disproving a stated intent of the writing
