Casseroles

Casserole is French word for “saucepan.” Like cassoulet, casserole refers to any recipe baked in that type of dish. Put another way, these are dishes that are stew-like (but not as wet) that are prepped with a variety of starch, meats, veggies, with either a cheese or crunchy topping, cooked in an oven.

Casserole directions:

  • Have a good baking dish
  • Choose a starch: potatoes, pasta, rice, grains
  • Choose a protein: meat, fowl, fish, other products
  • Choose the veggies
  • Choose a binder: eggs, bechamel, sauces
  • Cook and combine all and place in oven
  • Top with cheese or something crispy and broil
